MAD DADS IS PLANNING TO INCREASE CHAPTER GROWTH
100% BY END OF THE YEAR 2010
A key ingredient to the success of every MAD DADS chapter is to become a visible and vocal presence in challenged neighborhoods across the country; enlisting other community-based assets, as well as law enforcement, the judiciary, and others who choose to stand up and fight the negative forces destroying our children, families and cities. This work is accomplished through grass-roots recruitment of community members to form chapters (the heart and soul of the national organization), developing street patrols, instituting youth development programs, parenting programs and a host of other greatly needed direct service, morals and values building activities that address the desperately lacking competencies of many of our communities, both urban and rural, and particularly those of color.
From a genesis of only 16 men in Omaha, MAD DADS has grown to over 100,000 men and women nationally, with 67 Chapters in 17 states from New York to Florida to California (with international inquiries as far as the Netherlands). * There has been more than thirty (30) chapters started in Florida alone.
MAD DADS NATIONAL, the management group, through funding provided by grants, gifts and donations, provides on-site training for communities that are interested in starting a chapter in their community. Capacity building training is provided on topics including: community collaboration, community asset-identification and maximization, nonprofit set-up and management, and other relevant topics. Direct services training includes, teaching community groups:
- How to setup Weekend Street Patrols within troubled areas that report crime, drug sales and other destructive activities to the proper authorities; painting over gang graffiti and challenging the behavior of drug dealers and gang members.
- How to develop positive and fun Community Activities for youth, such as block parties, rallies, night parades and car shows.
- How to act as chaperones at community events and act as surrogate fathers to youth at non-traditional times and locations.
- To visits to local jails, prisons, juvenile commitment facilities and detention centers to counsel and encourage.
- How to start Violence Reduction and gun buy—back programs.
Take the right steps to REBUILD YOUR COMMUNITY. MAD DADS offers a wonderful opportunity to get men in your community active and willing partcipants in fighting crime, embracing positive values, and family restoration.
