In 1989, Mr. Staton, along with a small group of Omaha Nebraska men, developed the overall strategy, philosophy and direction behind the MAD DADS organization.  MAD DADS is an acronym for:  Men Against Destruction, Defending Against Drugs and Social-disorder.  The purpose of the organization is to address the current state of crisis found in neighborhoods across this country by raising the consciousness of parents in preventing the presence of drugs, gangs and violence!  The organization recruits committed MEN; promoting adult male responsibility to effectively combat violence, drugs, immorality and other destructive forces within local communities.

Mr. Staton is currently the National President and Co-founder of the National Organization, based in Jacksonville, Florida, with 60 plus Chapters in 17 States.   Mr. Staton also serves as Vice President of the Jacksonville Chapter.  The national organization has received citations from both Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, including being selected as one of America’s “Promising Practices” by President Clinton’s Initiative on Race, and George Bush’s ‘Thousand Points of Light.’  The group has also received intense media attention ranging from appearances on national network programs — such as Good Morning America and the CBS Morning Show, to articles in numerous publications — including the Wall Street Journal, the New York and LA Times, the Washington Post, Chicago Sun-Times, Family Circle and Essence magazines.  Today, Eddie serves on the Jacksonville Mayors’ anti crime committee “The Jacksonville Journey,” and also heads “The Florida Cares Initiative” a statewide mentoring recruitment effort in conjunction with Ms. Susan Taylor and the National Cares Mentoring Movement.

Mr. Staton attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, with a major in Elementary Education.  He worked as a purchasing agent for a local insurance agency before joining a special teaching program with the Omaha Public schools.  He served his community as an administrator for the United Methodist Community Centers in Omaha before being appointed by the Mayor to serve as the Director of Human Relations for the City, a position he held for almost 4 years, before starting MAD DADS.  In addition, Staton chaired the Omaha Commission on Community and Race Relations, and has also given persuasive testimony before several state legislative and city council bodies on issues ranging from community policing to building better race relations.

Mr. Staton is a nationally recognized leader on community empowerment, modern male responsibility issues, race relations and crime prevention.  He is a much sought after keynote speaker and commentator, having appeared on ABC World News Tonight, CNN, BET, and NBC’s Evening News, to name a few.

Mr. Staton is an ordained minister in the Churches of God in Christ.  He is currently the Pastor of the Goodness of God Worship Center, which is under the leadership of Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin and Covent Fellowship Intl., in Jacksonville, Florida.  He served his local church in Omaha as the Presidentof the Combined Men’s Ministries, which was responsible for organizing several church outreach projects including The Street-A-Week prayer services, and field trips to the Million Man March and Stand in the Gap, both held in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Staton is the proud father of 6 grown children with 20 grandchildren.  He and his wife Frankie moved to Jacksonville in April, 2002, and are currently raising their 16 year old daughter, Regine.  They enjoy reading, gospel music, the beach, and supporting local youth activities.
