AMERICAN INDIAN RESERVATION
As sovereign independent nations, American Indian Reservations have been attacked by drugs, alcohol and social disorder. In fact, the methamphetamine plague on top of the historical damage that alcohol has done to American Indians has made reservations an environment that fosters violence, gang activity and ruins families.
In 1997, MAD DADS was invited to the Winnebago Nation in Nebraska to set up its first Chapter on an American Indian reservation. After conferring with and getting the permission and blessing of the Tribal Council, the MAD DADS model that developed from Winnebago was unique to the tribe and put a powerful new dimension to male involvement options for MAD DADS internationally. Utilizing the “uncle” as the primary disciplinarian for the youth allowed for the transformation of the MAD DADS model to be culturally relevant and prove its effectiveness in addressing local and pressing concerns.
THE MISSION OF MAD DADS IS TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGE. TO SEEK OUT, ENCOURAGE, MOTIVATE AND GUIDE COMMITTED MEN IN THE STRUGGLE TO SAVE CHILDREN, COMMUNITIES AND OURSELVES FROM THE SOCIAL ILLS THAT PRESENTLY PLAGUE NEIGHBORHOODS.
